It's official! Bristol City have the best goalkeeper kit in the world

Once upon a time, in the infancy of replica kits, very little thought went into designing goalkeeper tops: green was the go-to colour and the idea of one becoming a must-have item was, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Although the colours have changed over the years, with the likes of Fabien Barthez and Jorge Campos trying to raise the position's humble profile in a visual sense, the latter thought-process still exists.

Traditionally, anyone wearing a 'keeper top outside of the confines of an actual game was probably a bit weird.

But Bristol City have bucked the trend this season and have produced two gorgeous goalkeeper shirts befitting of the very best and most unique strips around the world.

So much so, that COPA90 selected the "away" purple and pink top, featuring an almost 3D geometric design, as one of their best 64 new kits since the summer and placed it in a Twitter poll to establish the No1.

Advancing through the rounds, the Robins kit beat off heavyweight challengers from across Europe including Ajax and Roma before reaching the semi-finals.

City were drawn against Arsenal's nostalgic second-choice kit which pays homage to their iconic "bruised banana" top of the early 1990s.

At one stage, City looked to have upset the odds and set up a final contest against Hampton & Richmond Borough's sharp black and white number but such is the power of Arsenal fans on Twitter, Gunners from across the world piled in and outvoted it 4,980 to 3,333.

But having reached the last four, City can now comfortably lay claim to possessing the best in the world in terms of a keeper kit and one of the elite new strips for 2019/20.

"We felt at COPA90 that this has been one of the strongest season for kits and wanted to take the conversation further than simply sharing imagery," said Tommy Wright, social media manager for COPA90.

"We asked our following to send in any that they love and the Bristol City goalkeeper kit was put straight into the running 64.

"The patterning is brave with a cutting shapes likened to South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs  home kit, it’s hard not to take notice.

"I’ve always been a fan of weird and wonderful designs for goalkeeper tops, their paid to stop goals by any means necessary, not look good - but at Bristol City they can do both."
