It’s official: Another Aaron Rodgers-Tom Brady showdown is happening

Two of the game’s greatest all-time quarterbacks should get at least one more shot at a head-to-head showdown.

Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday, setting the stage for another Brady-Aaron Rodgers duel during the 2020 season.

Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are scheduled to play the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay next season.

With Brady in New England and the AFC, it wasn’t a guarantee the two quarterbacks would ever share the same field again. Now, barring injury, it’ll happen this year.

The two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks last faced off in New England in 2018. Brady got the best of Rodgers, throwing for 299 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots’ 31-17 win. Four years earlier, Rodgers out-dueled Brady at Lambeau Field, throwing for 368 yards and two scores in a 26-21 win for the Packers.

In 2010, Rodgers was healing from a concussion and couldn’t play during the Packers’ trip to New England. Matt Flynn started and nearly completed a stunning upset over Brady.

The two passers have never faced off in a Super Bowl, and with Brady joining the NFC, the chances of it ever happening have probably reached zero. However, the Packers went to the NFC title game a year ago and the Buccaneers are now a possible playoff team, so a postseason matchup isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Rodgers and Brady have long shared a mutually respectful relationship.  The legendary quarterbacks should now get a chance to break their head-to-head tie at some point in 2020.
