It's official... 2020 is a white Christmas: Snow has been spotted in England

It's official - 2020 is a white Christmas.

The Met Office says that as of 5am, snow was reported to be falling in Humberside and Suffolk.

The definition the forecaster uses to define whether or not it's a white Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December somewhere in the UK.

Pictures taken in Hessle near Hull show a light dusting of snow on the ground.

So while it's not exactly Narnia out there, it still counts.

The Met Office Tweeted this morning: "Morning everyone, we've just had official confirmation that this Christmas is a white one!

"Leconfield in Humberside reported snow falling at 5am, and Wattisham in Suffolk also reported recent snow at this time.

"Further updates will be issued as they become available."

As yet there have been no reports of snow in Greater Manchester, although it's a chilly start to Christmas Day, with temperatures around -2°.

There's good news for anyone planning a walk though, as it's expected to become sunny later in the day.
