"It's not as if we are not trying" - David Moyes makes West Ham transfer admission

West Ham are still looking for a striker to replace the departed Sebastien Haller, but David Moyes remained tight-lipped on who that player may be.

The Hammers manager was honest in his appraisal of the January transfer window in general saying "it has never been a great window, nobody has got time to do business."

West Ham, however, are trying to recruit players to fill the gap left by the sale of two experienced players.

"We have just lost Robert Snodgrass and Seb Haller so we are aware we are two senior players down from where we were a few weeks ago," said Moyes.

The loss of Haller has left the Hammers with only one fit senior striker Michail Antonio, with just 18-year-old Mipo Odubeko in reserve, and Moyes is aware of the need to strengthen his attacking lineup:

"We have had one or two offers for players either been rejected or they are not available or the clubs want too much money in our eyes, so it is not as if we are not trying to improve on it [the squad], but if we don't get anybody in then that's the way it is going to be, but it is a transfer window and we are out there trying," he said.

Antonio has missed half of the season with two different hamstring injuries but Moyes believes the striker is dealing with his body well.

"I think Mick has been managing himself in the games well. I don't think he is at full tilt at the moment, but I think he is doing well, and I know there are another couple of gears for him to go into.

I think he is protecting himself slightly at the minute but he is an important part of the team for us as you saw with his goal on Saturday, he got us the result, so we have got to be careful with him," said Moyes.

The manager faces a difficult balancing act of treating Antonio with care but getting the best out of him for the team.

Moyes added that although they must be careful with Antonio the Hammers need him to win games so they will try and make sure he is ready for all the upcoming matches, starting tomorrow with the clash against West Brom.

Despite pointing out the difficulties of signing players in January Moyes was grateful for the window last season when he was able to bring in Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen.

" I think it helped us greatly last year., I am not sure we would have been a Premier League club if we hadn't done business last January," he said.

The club may be looking to bring in a striker but the manager is certainly pleased with the form and consistency his squad is showing:

"The players are performing really well," Moyes said.

Adding: " We have got a really good squad at the moment, we have players who are really contributing, whether it be in the starting XI or the boys coming off the bench they have done really well."
