'It's not acceptable': Old Trafford residents hit out at football fans urinating behind their homes

Residents who live near Old Trafford say they are fed up with football fans urinating in public.

The stadium was allowed to reopen to capacity crowds for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic this weekend as Man United took on Leeds at home.

The clash between the historic rivals prompted nasty scenes of violence in Manchester city centre with four men arrested.

And nearer Old Trafford, a resident on Elton Street shared an image of two men urinating in the alleyway behind her home.

She said it was one of a number of similar incidents both before and after the game kicked off at 12.30 on Saturday afternoon.

"It's disgusting - our children and grandchildren play out the back there," the resident, who asked not to be named, said.

"We keep it clear of rubbish and it's really well respected [by residents].

"When we challenge them [football fans] and say 'excuse me' all we get is drunken abuse.

"They swear at us and say 'I'm desperate, there's no f***ing toilets around here'.

"It's disrespectful - something needs to be done."

It is understood residents on both Elton Street and neighbouring Railway Road have experienced problems with public urination for several years, and are looking at what action they can take including getting the alleyway gated.

"We're looking at getting a petition together," the resident added.

"Why should we put up with this? It's unacceptable."

Manchester United declined to comment but it is understood the club in no way condones the behaviour and are happy to work with local residents to tackle anti-social behaviour issues.

Trafford Council did not reply to a request for comment.
