A vegan skincare company in Brockley has been distributing free hand sanitiser to local organisations in need.
On top of their full-time jobs in finance and media law, Brian and Zaffrin O’Sullivan run Five Dot Botanics, which produces natural skincare products with only five ingredients.
They decided to start making sanitiser several weeks ago, but feared they would not be able to get the ingredients.
Mrs O’Sullivan said: “A chance conversation with someone from the drinks industry made us see there was a way we could secure the alcohol needed.”
They spoke to the Greensand Ridge Distillery in Kent, “and because they already had a licence for the alcohol, the HSE [Health and Safety Executive] gave them a licence to make hand sanitiser because it’s the same stuff, basically.”
They have since donated 200 bottles to St Christopher’s Hospice in south-east London and Voluntary Services Lewisham. They are giving the rest away to customers.
Mrs O’Sullivan said: “Helping the community was just one of those ways of feeling useful in a crisis. We don’t even make a massive dent in this problem but we stand for community; this is our small way of telling people what we’re about as a business.”
