A woman has been left disgusted after she found human poo on the street in the centre of Manchester.
Jennifer Jamieson, from Bury, was visiting the centre of Manchester on Thursday, June 16, when she was met with a horrific smell that turned her stomach, before realising it was human excrement that was behind the stench.
She said: "I went into Manchester and onto Oxford Road and down to the canal and the smell of urine, faeces, and cartons left behind was absolutely disgusting. I won't be going there again in a hurry. I walked down just past Castlefield and there was flytipping, boats that need removing, it was just disgusting, but nobody was bothered.
"I came back on the tram and got off at Piccadilly Gardens, walked across to Market Street to get the tram back to Bury and I came across a dump of human faeces. on Market Street. The kids were laughing at me taking a picture of it, but this is an actual thing. The smell just made my stomach turn.
"I don't know who's squatted on Market Street in what was probably a crowd of people without anyone saying anything but I've never seen anything like it, it's so upsetting to see, it's like a pack of animals."
Jennifer has seen similar problems in Manchester city centre before, and now avoids the area around Canal Street as she found human waste there on multiple occasions, putting her off the area.
She added: "Council workers have got to clean all this up and it can't be very pleasant for them. I grew up in Manchester and it was beautiful but this is a regular occurrence."
Coun Sam Wheeler, who represents the Piccadilly ward, encouraged people to get in touch with the council when they spot problems like this so the right people can be sent out to fix the issue. He said: "Obviously it's not a very nice thing to see but we would encourage anyone who spots a problem to report things on the portal on the council website.
"While people can come to ourselves and the other councillors, the first thing to do is to report it on the council website, that's the quickest way to get things cleaned up. Any areas where there's a recurring issue I'm very happy to have these conversations and get onto the right people to get these things fixed. There are public toilets at the town hall and at the train stations available for use too."
Reports can be made about a variety of problems on the Manchester City Council website.
