It's lights, camera action for Fermanagh Film Club's first Ardhowen screening

The Fermanagh Film Club will take to the Ardhowen Theatre next month for its first screening at the theatre.

On the go for 13 years, the club will hold its first big meeting at the Enniskillen venue on September 8.

The screening will be of Nomadland, the Oscar-winning drama about a 60-year-old woman who sets off on the road to explore life as a modern-day nomad.

FFC's Ann McDermot said: “We had been using other venues for the screenings but the management of the Ardhowen were happy to let us have the facilities.

“Nomadland is a great film and will be all the better on the big screen.

“It didn’t come to our local cinema and because we thought it was pretty well known and there might be a bit of interest in it we thought we would open with that one.”

Ann added the group has been going since 2008 and came about as the result of a small group of cinephiles getting together in the area.

She said: “We started in 2008 and we’ve been going ever since. It started off with a few like-minded people coming together and really developed from there.

“The British Film Industry have set up a number of hubs across the UK including one here in Northern Ireland.

“They are very helpful with support, we have been able to apply for a few grants through them.

“At the moment we seem to be on a reasonable course, I’m not sure how the long-term will go but everything is on the right track.

“We’re very grateful to have the Ardhowen on board. With some of the smaller venues we have it might be difficult to get everyone in with social distancing but we will have plenty of room there.”
