A woman has gone viral after a frightening experience at a hotel. In her TikTok discussing the incident, Ashley Tosh (@thatfitfoodiemom) set the scene by explaining that she was currently staying in a hotel room alone as part of a work conference.
Recently, when she was sitting in the hotel room, a man aggressively knocked on her door, claiming that he was from engineering. Tosh says that this doesn’t make sense because it was 8:45pm. So, she decides to call the front desk, who says that while there was an engineering team, they usually wear blue shirts. This differs from what the man was wearing, with Tosh noting through the peephole that he’s wearing a white shirt with a blue lanyard.
It was then that the penny dropped. Tosh says she realised that this “engineer” was the same guy who had been “stalking” her all day.
The first time was when he said, “Hey, beautiful,” while the TikToker was at her conference booth. He asked for her number, but she declined.
Later, once she was back at the hotel, she ordered DoorDash and stood outside waiting for the delivery. Then, the man approaches her again and asks her if she’s heading to dinner. She said no, and later realized when looking at him through the peephole that it was the same guy.
Feeling unsafe, and wondering how he could even know where she was, Tosh asked her co-workers to meet her at the lobby the next day.
“I guess I’m just telling the story because it p—ed me off,” she concluded. “It still makes me mad that I have to be scared to travel. I never travel alone. I never go to work things alone. And this is the first time I have ever stayed in a hotel overnight, and it’s because I didn’t want to drive. Like I always drive back the night after the show, then I drive back the next morning, and like, I just wanted to have a calm, enjoyable night, and it was ruined.”
The video amassed 12,100 views. Tosh didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and Instagram direct message.
What did viewers think?
Some commenters were sympathetic. “That is a nervewracker for sure!” they wrote. “It’s neat and eerie how our subconscious pays attention (i.e. earlier in the day) and serves it back up later. I’m sorry that happened, but I’m glad you’re safe!”
“I am so glad you didn’t open the door and you are safe,” another added. “I am sorry ,I go many places alone and as a female feel less safe all the time. It sucks, shouldn’t be this way.”
While other commenters divulged their own experiences. “My older sister and I were staying in a hotel in London,” a third TikTok user shared. “Oddly the room had an extra door in it that led to a long hallway clearly for staff. Shortly after we had someone knock on that door. I asked what they were there for because I was not about to open it.. they said they were there to fix the TV. Our TV was WORKING. I will never forget how scared I was in that moment and that night.”

Another hotel horror story
Tosh isn’t the only one who has a hotel horror story. After settling down for a midday nap at the Residence Inn Marriott, Tanner Spaulding (@selflessfitness) encountered something strange when he lay down.
“Have you ever laid down in a hotel bed for a midday nap and literally laid in someone else’s [expletive] diarrhea?” he asked viewers.
“When the whoosh of the air from the sheets hit me, it smelled like [expletive] [feces],” he added. “And then my leg was wet. And I realized I’m laying in someone else’s [expletive] [feces].”
As commenters pointed out, this is a biohazard, with several also encouraging him to sue the hotel.
Either way, it’s important to be especially cautious when in a hotel—whether that be because of unsavory characters or soiled bed sheets.
