'It's instinctive' - Leon Osman praises Patrick Bamford after Leeds United comeback goal

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman heaped praise on Patrick Bamford after he scored a dramatic late equaliser to earn Leeds United a 2-2 draw against Brentford.

The 28-year-old has missed the last nine matches through injury but came off the bench in the 68th minute with the Whites behind and searching for a spark to get them back into the contest.

Tyler Roberts had given Marcelo Bielsa's side the lead, before goals from Shandon Baptiste and Sergi Canos put the Bees in the ascendancy going into the final half an hour.

However, Bamford popped up in injury-time to bundle the ball over the line and rescue a valuable point which sees Leeds move upto 14th in the Premier League table.

It was a moment to remember for the forward and Osman believes that Leeds have 'really missed' Bamford and will be relieved he is back from an long-term ankle issue.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, he said: "He did what all good goalscorers do and they've really missed him this season.

"Leeds have struggled with injuries, lost [Kalvin] Phillips and [Liam] Cooper again today but it was great to have him back.

"With him in the team, they've scored just 1.6 goals per-game, compared to 0.9 without him. He does what all good strikers do, he's in the right position, it's instinctive and he just sticks a leg out and bundles it into the goal.

"[Luke] Ayling was back today as well with the flick on and he was involved in it. But Leeds have really missed his goals, his all-round game and he topped his return off with a goal."

Bamford played a vital role in Leeds' ninth-place finish last season as he scored 17 goals and grabbed eight assists in 38 appearances.

His impressive form also earned him a place in the England squad for the September internationals against Hungary, Andorra and Poland.

The ex-Middlesbrough man went on to make his Three Lions debut in the game against Andorra and helped his side to a comfortable 4-0 success at Wembley.

But Bamford was taken off with an ankle problem at Newcastle United and has subsequently sat out the last two-and-a-half months worth of action.

With the forward now fit, Leeds will be hoping he can replicate his form from last season to ease their goalscoring worries as they try to climb the league table.
