'It's here. Webex has finally been set up…'

It's here. Cisco's Webex has finally been set up and there is a buzz around the office over what we are going to be able to do with it.

I and the two other founders of Black Tomato have had a bit of a head start – with our training done, we're undertaking our first webcast and will be using all the exciting features of Webex.

The webcast is designed to allow our customers to ask us questions and get tips on where they should be going and what they should be doing.

We will be able to answer the questions we receive in real time through the Q&A facility and engage with customers or potential customers through a dialled-in conference call. We can also share images and presentations on our favourite destinations through the online Webex portal, where the web chat will be taking place.

It is often the case that you hear about a new service or product and the reality of it never matches the hype. I can confidently say that on this occasion the reality of what Webex can do for us and the sheer scale of its potential more than exceeds the expectations I had for it.

The webcast is just the first instance of us using the system to get closer to our customers on a regular basis. As I write this, I can see members of staff in the board room being trained on it and from the staff who already have been trained, and emails containing ideas on how we can use Webex further to enhance our offering are coming in.

This stuff's good. Very good. A life without Webex? I think not.
