Hassan Hamka doesn't believe he will ever see his older sister, missing Melbourne woman Maryam Hamka, ever again.
The last time they spoke she cut his hair and they had a good laugh.
That was about two weeks before Ms Hamka was last seen leaving a Brunswick supermarket on April 10.
The 36-year-old's former boyfriend, Toby Loughnane, is charged with her murder while Oscar Newman has been charged with assisting the alleged killer.
Her body has never been found.
"I just want to say to how hard it is that my sister is not coming home," Mr Hamka told reporters on Friday after Loughnane and Newman faced Melbourne Magistrates Court.
"We know people have the answers to where she is and we just want to put her to rest our way and nobody else's way."
Mr Hamka described his older sister as a beautiful person and a good aunty who had an amazing heart.
He said his family was hurting even more in the lead-up to Christmas and Ms Hamka's birthday on December 19.
The 32-year-old also said his sister and his family were worried about her safety and contacted the police before she went missing.
"It's almost been eight months and we still don't know where she is," Mr Hamka said.
"It's been very hard - I haven't slept, been having nightmares, crying everyday. I just want my sister home. It's like hell."
Prosecutors previously alleged Loughnane, 41, murdered Ms Hamka in the early hours of April 11 after an argument. Neighbours reported hearing a disturbance around that time.
Newman, 26, is not alleged to have had any involvement in the suspected murder of Ms Hamka, but is accused of assisting Loughnane afterwards.
A woman in court yelled out during proceedings on Friday, asking for answers and telling people it was nearly Ms Hamka's birthday.
"I know you're upset but please don't talk in court," magistrate Peter Reardon said in response.
Loughnane and Newman are expected to face a three-day committal hearing on May 9.
