‘It’s gonna be fun to cancel Metallica’: MAGA threaten band after they refuse to let Pentagon use their music for war propaganda

Last week Pete Hegseth and The pentagon were humiliated by the band Metallica after the government ignored copyright laws and used the song “Enter Sandman” by the heavy metal band to accompany footage of military drones.

The footage, which was posted to social media on Friday, featured Hegseth promoting the U.S. drone capabilities and its uses in the military. When it was initially uploaded the clip was backed by the iconic Metallica hit from 1991, “Enter Sandman.” However, a copyright notice was swiftly issued by the band according to The Independent.

After that the clip was quickly removed and reuploaded, this time with no music whatsoever. Apparently the government now thinks it’s above the law when it comes to copyright, it makes sense, after all, Donald Trump clearly thinks he’s above the law too.

On X, irate MAGA buffoons expressed their hatred for the band threatening to “cancel” them for daring to prevent the government from using their music for free. One angry Trump supporter wrote, “Oh, it’s gonna be fun to cancel Metallica, and believe me there’s a lot of us that will.” Somehow I doubt that there are as many as this person makes out.

Another angry MAGA wrote, “Well, they haven’t been relevant for years and they just missed an opportunity to reach millions of patriotic Americans.” Just because they haven’t personally kept up with Metallica doesn’t make the band irrelevant. Plenty of people are still massive fans and after “Master Of Puppets” was used in the finale of Stranger Things 4 it’s safe to say they’re still as relevant as ever. Also it’s hard to imagine one lousy drone video would catapult the band into mainstream relevance again anyway.

Other Trump supporters simply opted to hurl insults at the metal band despite the fact that it is the government that is in the wrong whichever way you look at it.

Why is anyone surprised?

It shouldn’t really come as a shock that the band Metallica would have a problem with their music being used in what basically amounts to war propaganda. Some online have pointed out that the band have been pretty consistently anti-war in their messaging from the beginning, “Metallica is mega anti-war, they’ve even made whole songs and videos about being anti-war.”

Another wrote, “There isn’t a more American or metal thing in the world than suing the f***ing government for using your s**t without permission.”

The Trump administration has a tendency to use music without permission. Countless musicians have expressed their objections to Trump and his cronies using their creations for government propaganda. Last month the president shocked Americans with his decision to use an offensive parody of the Beach Boys hit “Barbara Ann” over footage of a B-2 stealth bomber dropping bombs.
