‘It’s giving prison cell’: Woman pulls up to hotel room in Texas. Then she finds evidence it was ‘designed by a man.’ What’s wrong with it?

When it comes to hotels, design is crucial—it can make or break your experience. And for TikToker Abbey Cooper (@abbeysocool_), it’s definitely the latter.

In a viral TikTok, she gave viewers a guided tour of the room, declaring, “This is how I know our hotel room was designed by a man.”

The first clue was that the “entire room was concrete.” As well as looking visually unappealing, she noted how the room was open concept, which, she says, will cause the “entire bathroom” to leak into the rest of the room. “So if you wanna take a [expletive], the entire room will smell like pure [expletive],” she added.

Another point of contention was the barn-style doors. “So, when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you will inevitably wake up the other person sleeping with you,” she says.

To make matters worse, the shower cubicle had no space for belongings, and the shower itself was “waterfall style,” which Abbey says is a girl’s “worst nightmare,” because “not every woman wants to wash their hair every single time they take a shower.”

Other issues include a lack of counter space, no bin in the bathroom, a small, awkwardly placed sink that causes you to “bump into the mirror,” and “a big, fat desk that I guarantee you absolutely nobody uses.”

“This could have been extra space for the bathroom,” she despaired. “But no, we had to make room for a big fat [expletive] desk. But the concrete design’s really cool.”

Abbey didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment.

What did viewers think?

The clip amassed 1 million views, and like Abbey, users had choice words about the subpar lodgings. “This is my nightmare hotel room,” one commenter wrote, to which Abbey replied that she “couldn’t relax the whole time.”

A second added that “rainfall showers are the devil’s work.”

“Omg, I stayed at a hotel exactly like this in Rhode Island for a wedding,” a third shared, adding that “every guest was saying it was a prison hotel!”

A fourth opined that “If the bathroom isn’t entirely enclosed; the entire place is essentially a bathroom.”

Taking a more neutral perspective, a fifth said, “Y’all, this is not a matter of being designed by a man or a woman, it’s the result of investors looking to maximize their returns. Every single choice in this hotel room was made because it is either cheaper upfront or it reduces future operations-maintenance.”

“Hotel designers, please please hear us…” a sixth appealed. “A place to put the suitcase where we won’t trip over it, shelf and counter space in the bathroom, multiple easily accessible outlets EVERYWHERE, and for the love of god, a full-length mirror.”

In the comments, Abbey also revealed which hotel it was: the Nylo Plano hotel.

Hilton didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via email.

Luxor hotel drama

As it stands, Nylo isn’t the only hotel chain to disappoint guests. TikToker Micayla (@micaylamalchiodii) went viral after sharing her experience at the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas. Along with dark, sinister hallways, the furniture was also dated.

“I’m blogging my experience because I’m so afraid, I’m so [expletive] afraid of this hotel,” she said in the clip. “Like why are the rooms in the hallways so dark? There’s honestly no [expletive] way in hell I’m going to sleep tonight. There’s no way. Like what in the back rooms is this [expletive]?”
