It's free parking in these parts of Trafford on the run up to Christmas

Shoppers and visitors across Trafford won’t have to pay for parking after 3pm from this weekend until Christmas.

Trafford Council will suspend its parking charges from 3pm onwards, Monday to Saturday every week, from Saturday November 16 to January 11 2020.

The authority’s ‘Free After 3’ campaign does not apply to match-day parking within the Village in Trafford Park , however and match-goers will still have to pay.

The scheme aims to help people coming to the area save money and give a boost to local businesses.

The first day of the scheme coincides with Altrincham’s Christmas lights switch on , taking place in the town’s Stamford Quarter.

Coun James Wright, cabinet member for housing and regeneration, said: “Free after 3 is a great scheme to help boost our town centres and enable residents to shop local.

“We have a great mix of shops in our town centres and it’s brilliant that we can support them in this way, especially in the run-un to Christmas, and afterwards during the January sales.

“The Free after 3 scheme is just one of the many ways we are helping our town centres, with our recent purchases of Stretford Mall and the Stamford Quarter showing our determination to create successful and thriving places in Trafford.”

People will be able to tell where the scheme is in operation by looking out for green stickers at on-street pay and display machines across the borough and in council-owned car parks.
