'It's been an absolute honour' - Lee Tomlin issues emotional parting message to Cardiff City fans after shock exit

Lee Tomlin has issued a classy message to Cardiff City supporters after it was announced that he would leave the club by mutual consent.

The Bluebirds announced that Tomlin would depart the club with immediate effect in a bombshell statement on Monday morning.

It comes almost exactly a year after the playmaker's last outing in a Cardiff shirt — a substitute appearance in the 3-2 defeat at QPR on October 31, 2020 — with the player having undergone surgery on a groin problem.

He has never fully recovered and indeed went under the knife again a fortnight ago after suffering a setback.

However, after the news was announced the 32-year-old penned a heartfelt message to the fans, thanking them for how they welcomed and supported him during his time at the club.

"I would like to thank all the staff and players over the years I've met a this incredible football club," Tomlin wrote on Instagram.

"It’s been an absolute honour to play for Cardiff City Football Club.

"To all the fans I loved trying to get you off your seats with excitement every time I played, you have been amazing to me from the start to finish and will always be in my heart."

Tomlin was signed by Neil Warnock from Severnside rivals Bristol City back in the summer of 2017.

However, his injury woes meant he featured only 57 times for the Bluebirds, scoring 11 goals in that time.

He was voted the club's Player of the Season after his exploits in helping Cardiff achieve the play-offs in the 2019/20 campaign.
