Gwyneth Paltrow's Montecito home is the stuff of legends. In 2022, she worked with iconic designers Roman and Williams and Romanek Design Studio to create a luxuriously laid-back California sanctuary that championed the Goop founder's personal style.
We still haven't forgotten. Every space in the home is stunning, but the home bar in Gwyneth's living room is one of my favorite design details of all time.
I look at dozens of gorgeous interiors a day in my role as a News Editor at Homes & Gardens, so when something sticks in my brain like a tattoo, I know it's truly special. Gwyneth's home bar is beyond. Constructed of Oyster Calcultta marble, it rises in beautiful curves from the side of her living room. Gold, built-in shelves host a range of stylish glassware, indicating that the bar is just as useful as it is stylish.
The natural materials combined with luxurious design perfectly capture Gwyneth; it's fit for a wellness guru, but with a touch of movie star charm. It's the ideal grounding piece for the airy, light-filled charm of the Los Angeles home. It's a masterclass in the perfect home bar setup.
The Roman and Williams team calls it an example of 'transforming furniture into sculpture.' This philosophy was applied to every moment of the design and construction process.
They explain: 'In creating this monolithic singular design, we carefully drew each contour to express an altar, a strong sculptural form constructed from solid marble. We knew we wanted the bar to be the defining feature of Gwyneth Paltrow's living room, an art object more than anything, at her new home in California.'
Recreate Gwyneth's Look at Home With the Marble Bar Edit
Though you can add the beauty of Gwyneth's home bar through the addition large marble furnishings like this stunning marble table from Wayfair, it's also simple to incorporate touches with smaller items. A well chosen bowl, cup, or salt and pepper shaker instantly integrates that Montecito charm. Here are our editors' picks.

Marble can be added through decor and kitchenware, too. This set of three marble condiments set comes with a wooden tray and brass spoons.

We love these sophisticated salt and pepper shakers in a cool, matte marble.

Elevate your floating bar shelves with this stunning fruit bowl made of black onyx, a material renowned for its wellness benefits.
As happens so often, the process of building the small home bar didn't go to plan. However, the result turned out so much better than imagined. The Roman and Williams team states: 'We originally specified onyx, but in the end the richly-figured stone with a swirling, the Oyster Calcatta is alive with movement and energy.' In my humble opinion, it was a blessing in disguise.
Gwyneth's living room focal point was just as much about process as result. Roman and Williams says: 'Through finding exceptional living materials and transforming them, they are given a new life. Stone, as a fundamental material used in this way is rare and very powerful and something we are proud to have been able to experiment with. By giving singular materials pride of place in our projects, we honor and celebrate their natural beauty.'
Never ones to skim on details, the team's approach to decorating the shelves and surrounding area was just as intentional.
They state: 'On top of the bar is a collection of handblown original-designed glassware by Roman and Williams Guild New York, our take on an archetypal 18th century design. Our bar is proud to sit next to a Rick Owens chair, celebrating the strength of material and monumental physicality.'
When this much thought, care, and attention to detail goes into a design, it's sure to pay off. In the case of Gwyneth Paltrow's home bar, it definitely did.
