It's August and 24°C - so of course Christmas cards are already in the shops

It's August, the temperature is already in the mid-20s, and the mercury is expected to hit 28°C over the bank holiday weekend.

So Christmas cards must already be in the shops, right?

It might seem early, but a number of card shops already have their Christmas offerings up and running.

These include Card Factory, which has three stores in Nottingham city centre as well as others in Beeston, Sherwood, Arnold, Hucknall, and Mansfield; and Cardzone, which has outlets in places including Beeston, Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Nottingham city centre.

A spokeswoman for Card Factory said there was "high demand" for its Christmas products in August.

She said: "Lots of our customers tell us that they like to spread the cost of Christmas.

"Based on this feedback, we took the decision to launch our Christmas ranges in plenty of time in our stores.

"As a business we are committed to meeting our customers’ expectations, and we annually stock our Christmas products in our stores from mid-August for those customers who wish to make early festive purchases."

However, shopper Rachael Stapleford, from Thorneywood, said: "I understand the need to spread the cost but seriously, August?!

"I personally find it depressing and actually think it puts even more pressure on families to have the perfect Christmas. Leave it until December, I say!"

One chain which doesn't yet have Christmas stock in store is Clintons, which has around 340 outlets including ones at the intu Victoria Centre in Nottingham and the Four Seasons Shopping Centre in Mansfield, as well as Newark, Worksop and Retford.
