'It's an absolute disgrace': Hundreds of cough mixture bottles dumped at Chorlton Water Park

A large pile of cough mixture bottles were found dumped in Chorlton Water Park posing questions from locals about how they got there in the first place.

On Wednesday (February 12), cough mixture bottles were found spewed out on the park floor surrounded by boxes and packaging near the entrance by Kenworthy Woods.

“I’ve never seen anything like it before,” a resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Manchester Evening News .

“There were hundreds of bottles in boxes, bags and strewn around that patch.

“All the bottles were empty, but had they not been and children came across them, for instance, then it could have become a very dangerous situation.”

The resident, who regularly uses the 19-acre park to walk dogs, said it was ‘infuriating’ to see the dumped bottles.

“Obviously there are better ways to dispose of such things,” the resident added.

“Sharston Tip is literally five minutes from where they were dumped.”

Manchester City Council confirmed they were looking into the situation at the park, which is a Grade A site of Biological Importance.

"Our waste contractor Biffa have been alerted to what appears to be a fly-tip at Chorlton Water Park,” a council spokesperson said.

"They will collect the dumped material and search for any evidence that can trace it back to its origin.

“We have also contacted our Parks team to understand how the bottles may have gotten there.

“If anyone has any information about this case, please get in touch via the Council's website.”
