It's About Love by Steven Camden – review

I was a little doubtful when I read the title for this book, because I don’t like romantic stories. But the blurb seemed different to what I expected. And wow, it’s not JUST about love. It’s about other things, like bravery and strength and pride. It is told from Luke’s perspective, little Lukey who is known as Marc’s little brother. It is Marc who was the cool one, the popular one. But Marc protected Luke, and looked after Luke, and now he is in prison for it. The relationship between these two brothers really touched me. I thought it was really sweet.

Luke is going to college, the first one from his family to go. He feels awkward and out of place until he meets the bubbly and beautiful Leia who doesn’t seem to find him awkward or stare at him like everyone else does. Luke is soon torn between spending times with his old friends and his new college friends.

it's about love

Subtle little secrets are dropped throughout the book, little hints about the characters’ pasts. And at the end, everything slots together and suddenly it all makes sense. That’s what I most admire about this book. It amazes me how a plot can be so intricate and well woven; it is funny at times, sad, and full of secrets. Throughout, it captured my attention and I can honestly say that it was a brilliant read.

Even if love stories aren’t your thing, I would definitely give this book a go because Luke and Leia’s story is very special, and although it’s about many different things, in the end it all comes down to love.
