'It's a very sad day' - Only a few items left at Wollaton Waitrose ahead of closure

A couple of bags of lettuce and a few punnets of strawberries are among the few items left at Waitrose in Wollaton.

Earlier this year, Waitrose bosses confirmed its  Trowell Road  branch would shut on November 10 before Lildl opens a new store on the site.

Now, one day before the closure, eerie pictures of the empty supermarket have emerged.

The pictures show empty crates, shelves and not a shopper in sight.

Joe Corr, a regular shopper at Waitrose, said: "It's a very sad day to see any business close. We used it for some years and will miss such a lovely store and staff.

"The nearest Waitrose is quite a long trip to make at Mountsorrel. Speaking to some of the staff they are obviously upset and they told me it's going to be knocked down. To make room for Lidl and housing."

The news Waitrose would be closing was met with  disappointment by some people in the local community earlier this year.
