'It's a shame', say residents as gazebo at Arnot Hill park is vandalised.

A newly painted gazebo at Arnot Hill Park in Arnold has already been vandalised and residents are not happy about it.

It comes after the leader for Gedling Borough council, Councillor John Clarke, made a video appeal posted on the Gedling Borough Council's Twitter page appealing to residents to report any vandalism they may see.

"If you're walking through this park and you see somebody abusing this [the gazebo] or anything in the park please tell us at the council", urges Mr Clarke.

Mr Clarke goes onto to say,

"We need help on this. This cost a lot of money to do, and now we've got obscenities and all sorts of things that have been sprayed on the inside.

"We're in the process of having that removed now but it's a deep frustration."

In the video, Mr Clarke stresses to people that "It's your money, it's ratepayers money that's being spent to provide a facility for young people as we do for all age groups across the borough and it's being abused."

Shona Percival, 85, of Mapperley, said: "The park is gorgeous so, it's such a shame there's graffiti on the gazebo."

Miriam Clarke, a 33-year-old full time mother agreed, stating: "Whoever has done it, should be ashamed of themselves."

Tom Gould, a 75-year-old retired cleaner from Arnold who tries to get to Arnot Hill park everyday for exercise asks,

"What do they get out of it?", referring to the vandals.

Mr Gould claimed vandalism in the area had been a problem in the area for some time.

He said "I call it [the gazebo] the tin cabin, where I go for a sit down sometimes so it's such a shame it's been ruined with graffiti."
