'It's a national scandal' Susanna Reid slams Education Secretary over school plans

Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid has slammed Education Secretary Gavin Williamson over the government's school plans, branding the whole thing a "national scandal".

The mother of three and GMB host passionately spoke about fears of a "lost generation" of children missing out on a education after the government dropped plans to re-open schools in England before the summer break.

All three of Susanna's children, Jack, 15, Finn, 16, and Sam, 18, are being home schooled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the MirrorOnline reports.

Fellow host Piers Morgan also roasted the Education Secretary for failing to appear on the show to answer questions.

Susanna said: "Where has the Education Secretary been? For all the parents who are concerned about whether their children are going to get an education for six months?"

She added: "Education experts are saying there is going to be a lost generation, you have an issue of children at risk who are not going into schools where teachers would be able to keep an eye on them, children who are not able to do home schooling, there's a problem parents who are not able to enforce the discipline."

"Gavin doesn't want to face the music and be asked tough questions," said Piers.

"This is your job, and it's total chaos."

He ranted: "Millions of people are left in limbo because Gavin Williamson hasn't got his act together, he has made vacuous promises he hasn't kept, and it's been a total shambles."

"We have talked so much about the woeful incompetence of this government, it doesn't matter if they are Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, it's about management of a crisis, this schools fiasco."

Later on, Susanna added that she believed a "chasm" was going to open not only between privately and publicly-educated children, but also children whose parents were able to home school and those that could not.

"It's a national scandal," she said.

"Where is the Education Secretary, and when is he going to get schools up and running again?"

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
