'It's a miracle they're not bottom three': Match of the Day's scathing, must-read NUFC verdict

Newcastle United are deep in relegation trouble after a second successive defeat, according to Match of the Day pundit Martin Keown.

The Magpies lost at Crystal Palace and it was a meek surrender as Patrick van Aanholt's free-kick saw them succumb in the capital for the second time in six days.

They didn't create enough and were sloppy in possession, allowing Palace to notch their first win of 2020.

And Keown did not hold back: "Important win for Palace but conversely, Newcastle are in real trouble now.

"It's one win in nine, they're bottom of so many rankings. How they're not in the bottom three I don't know. It's a miracle they're not in the bottom three.

"Joelinton has gone 32 hours without scoring and if you need your centre forward to score you a goal and he's gone that long without scoring, where's the belief from the team? It's looking very difficult for them at the moment."

Ian Wright feels Newcastle are a team that can be 'got at'.

"I was quite pleased to see Palace players go on the attack against a Newcastle side who, you have to say, given the way they've been playing they're not going to score too many goals even if they have beaten (Manchester) United, Tottenham and Chelsea this season.

"They're a team who, if you have a go at them, you're probably going to have some joy."
