'It's a miracle no one was killed' Neighbour tells of horror after 'huge sudden bang' from gas explosion at Coatbridge house

A neighbour has revealed the horror moment they heard a 'huge bang' from a gas explosion in Coatbridge.

It comes after a husband and wife were hospitalised after the back end of their house was blown off in the dramatic incident.

Scott, 43, and Donna Donnell, 39, who live on Cedar Grove, Drumpellier Lawns, Bargeddie near Coatbridge were caught up in the explosion this morning at around 6.25am.

It's believed their children were not home at the time as locals described the scene as looking like 'a bomb went off'.

Donna was transferred from Monklands to Royal Infirmary to be treated for burns while Scott recovers from less serious injuries at a friend's house.

Now neighbours have lifted the lid on the traumatic incident.

One local said: "There was a huge sudden bang in the estate.

"It was early in the morning so it was hard to tell where it came from, but it was really loud.

"The emergency response vehicles were on the scene quickly and you could tell it was serious.

"The whole back of the house was missing.

"It looked like a bomb had gone off.

"It was a miracle no one was killed and hopefully they will be okay.

" Their friends and neighbours in the estate have rallied round to offer to help in any way they can."
