It's a massive positive for Dublin to still be hurling on July - Eoghan O'Donnell

A win for Dublin would send them into a first quarter-final in four years where Tipperary would be their opponents.

And that is a prospect Eoghan O'Donnell is relishing, saying: “It’s so positive to be playing at this time of the year.

"The atmosphere in the camp is so good, and the weather is starting to get better, and you’re really enjoying coming to training and you’ve something to look forward to, which is great.

“Because last year we played Galway in the last game and we knew we couldn’t get through, and we had a two-week break so it was very hard to keep morale in the camp up because you know you’re not going to be hurling after that game. So, it’s a lovely change of pace.”

Still though, O’Donnell admitted there was something of an anti-clmax after the Galway win as the Wexford-Kilkenny draw edged them out of the Leinster final on scoring difference.

“We just thought, if we win, more than likely we’re in a Leinster final. So, for the first five or 10 minutes after the game, there was a great atmosphere, we actually thought we were in a Leinster final.

“And then word came through, obviously, that Kilkenny and Wexford drew.

"So, it was kind of bittersweet - (we were) a small bit disappointed because at the start of the year our aim was to get to a Leinster final, it wasn’t to come third.”
