It’s a curios world: Small decorative sculptures to make your home look expensive

What goes into making a home?

It’s not just about the fixtures or fittings - that’s what goes into building a house. Your home, your sanctuary from the world, should be a place where you feel safe, comfortable - and inspiring.

If you’re not particularly interiorsy, it can be hard to strike a balance between functional bits and finishing touches, but home accessories are an easy way to make your haven feel personal.

While things like textiles and framed prints on the wall undoubtedly help, if you’re looking to make your pad feel more high-end, a curation of small, interesting sculptures can have a huge impact.

Curios to punctuate bookshelves, interesting arts d’objets on the hallway console, masterpieces to gaze at while in the WC (in fact, the more unexpected the setting, the better). Your home has plenty of surfaces that could do with a gallery-style makeover - the question is, where to procure such pieces when you don’t have The British Museum’s budget or connections to call upon?

The good news is that there are plenty of decorative sculptures at prices that won’t make the blood rush to your head, if you know where to look, that is.

High street stores and mid-range designers have excellent options in their collections that look like they’d go for thousands at auction, but crucially, won’t make too big a dent in your finances.

If you’re looking to up the ante and make your home appear more expensive without blowing a packet, I’ve rounded up some of the finest, most interesting sculptures to introduce to your interiors. You will find ideas to suit a swathe of budgets, and I’ve suggested styling ideas to help if you’re struggling with how to place them.
