'It's a chance for us to give back' - Dobson and Parnell owner's joy as Newcastle Restaurant Week returns

Food lovers in Newcastle are eagerly awaiting the return of Restaurant Week, and this year there will be a chance to experience fine dining at a cheaper price.

After a two-year absence due to Covid-19, NE1’s popular event sees restaurants across the city offering special deals on their dishes. This year people can dine out for just £10, £15 or £20 per person from January 17 to 23.

Dobson and Parnell, which can be found on Newcastle’s Quayside, is one of the 77 restaurants getting involved this year and is giving customers the opportunity to try lunch or dinner for less.

Opened in 2016 on Queen Street, Dobson and Parnell is named after the architects who designed the stunning Victorian building that now houses the restaurant.

It’s part of the Hooked-on group that also owns Blackfriars restaurant in the city centre, as well as Hinnies out in Whitley Bay.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be part of it, and we're eternally grateful to NE1 for hosting this," says owner Andy Hook. "It's a chance, really, for us to give back and say thank you to the great British dining public, who have been so eager to come out and keep us alive all through the pandemic last year."

Dobson and Parnell has put together a Restaurant Week menu where diners can have a three-course lunch or a two-course dinner for £20 per person.

For starters there’s a choice of ham hock terrine with apple chutney and toasted sourdough, curried cauliflower soup with cauliflower fritters, or smoked mackerel pate with dill picked cucumbers.

The mains to choose from are smoked haddock with crushed potatoes and poached egg, Jerusalem artichoke risotto with caramelised onion tofu, or roasted chicken thighs, chorizo and bean cassoulet.

And finally for dessert customers can choose between poached rhubarb with whipped custard and almond granola, a chocolate mousse, cinder toffee and banana crumble, or a selection of ice cream and sorbet.
