'It's a bit too close to home': Residents speak of shock after fight between three men ends in gunfire

Residents have spoken of their shock after a fight ended in gunfire in the early hours.

Police said they were called to Jetson Street in Gorton at around 12.15am.

Officers have established that three men were involved in a fight before a gunshot was heard.

Evidence of a firearm having being used has been found at the scene.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The road was cordoned off for much of Wednesday before being reopened this afternoon.

One resident said: “The police came round this morning, said there had been an incident and asked to have a look at my CCTV camera."

“They were looking at it for half an hour but I don’t think they saw anything as it points directly at my car.

“I didn’t hear anything, neither did my son and you’d think we would if a gun had been let off.

"If that has happened it’s very worrying and disturbing.”

Another resident added: “I heard nothing, but my friend who lives round the corner said she’d heard a gunshot just after 12.

All three men fled the scene (MEN)

“I said to her ‘don’t be daft, it can’t be that’ but it turns out right she’s probably right.

"It’s quite concerning to say the least.”

And another said: "The first I heard of it was about half 5 this morning when I looked out and the police were here.

"I didn't think much of it I just thought something might have gone on at one of the flats but they were still here a few hours later about half 8 so I knew it must be something fairly serious.

"But the police wouldn't tell us anything and so I didn't hear what had happened until just now.

"I just can't believe it really.

No one was injured in the shooting (MEN)

"I didn't hear anything, any commotion, any gunshots, or even anything that sounded like gunshots.

"Which is a real surprise if it's happened right here.

"It is a little bit close to home I must say."

Forensics experts were spotted taking photographs at the scene while officers were knocking on doors.

It is understood another police cordon on nearby Chapman Street is not being linked to the shooting.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called around 12.15am today (Wednesday 26 June 2021) to a report of a male with a gun on Jetson Street, Manchester.

"Officers attended and enquires established three males had been involved in a fight and a firearm had been discharged.

"All three males fled the scene prior to police arrival and no injuries have been reported.

"Enquiries are ongoing and a scene remains in place."
