Jan. 06--It appears Superman won't be flying in to save the day.
Look for a more low-key Patrick Kane during the 2015 NHL All-Star Game festivities.
Kane, who thrilled the crowd when he donned a Superman cape and Clark Kent glasses and went on to win the Breakaway Challenge at the 2012 All-Star Game in Ottawa, said Tuesday that he likely won't participate in the event in Columbus later this month.
"Sometimes I have some bad dreams about that contest," Kane said following the Hawks' morning skate in preparation for Tuesday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche. "Like I'll go out there and not have any ideas what to do. Maybe I'll let some of the younger guys take over this year and back out of that one. (Alex) Ovechkin won it a a few years ago and he hasn't been in it since. I think once you win it, it's one of those things you move on from."
Wearing the cape and glasses handed to him by Hawks teammate Marian Hossa, Kane slid on his stomach along the ice as if flying through the air and tucked the puck into the net to draw a roar from the Ottawa crowd. In the same competition, Kane exploded a puck (that he had previously cut into) with a slap shot.
Along with four of his Hawks teammates, Kane was among six players voted in by fans to participate in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 25. The rest of the team will be selected by the NHL and announced Saturday.
