There are so many upcoming superhero movies on the way. From hotly anticipated Marvel flicks to the growing list of DCU projects in the works, fans of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and other iconic comic book heroes are in for a real treat these next few months and years.
With some major releases taking up prime real estate on the 2026 movie schedule, and even more in 2027, 2028, and beyond, there’s a lot to look forward to in the very near future. That said, let’s go through and break down all the major superhero movies set to hit the big screen in the next few years.
Supergirl (June 26, 2026)
A year after Milly Alcock debuted as Supergirl in Superman, Clark Kent’s cousin will lead her own cinematic adventure, and the character’s first solo feature in more than 40 years, when Supergirl flies high on the big screen. Craig Gillespie is directing the Australian former House of the Dragon cast member in the first major comic book movie release on the upcoming 2026 movie schedule.
Based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the movie will follow Kara Zor-el as she celebrates her 21st birthday, only to get wrapped up in a dark and twisted journey. Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and Jason Momoa, playing Lobo, are all set to appear.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31, 2026)
Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is taking over the reins of another series by helming the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth MCU film led by Tom Holland’s webslinger. Not a lot is known about the Marvel Phase Six film at this time, but Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon are all set to return in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, which has also cast Stranger Things star Sadie Sink in a mysterious role.
Speaking of actors, the new Spidey flick will also see the return of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, and Michael Mando’s Scorpion, who hasn’t been seen since the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming nearly a decade ago.
Clayface (September 11, 2026)
Following the success of 2019’s Joker, yet another Batman villain is getting his own solo movie, namely Clayface, who will be played by Tom Rhys Harries of Kandahar fame. James Gunn described Mike Flanagan’s first draft of the script, before Hossein Amini took over screenwriting duties, as a body horror movie, which sounds like a perfect fit for this character. With production having wrapped in October 2025, it’s only a matter of time before we get our first proper look at the live-action DCU film.
Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026)
Not since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame have we seen “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” together, but that is all about to change with the highly anticipated release of the MCU’s fifth major crossover epic, Avengers: Doomsday. Joe and Anthony Russo are coming back to the franchise to helm the film, which boasts a stacked cast, but no return is more surprising than Oscar-winning former Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doom.
This time around, the Avengers will team up with the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and the original X-Men to take on the iconic comic book villain. But this isn’t the only upcoming Avengers movie in the works. In fact, this is just the beginning….
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse (June 25, 2027)
In addition to Tom Holland’s imminent return as Spider-Man, a webslinger fans are dying to see on the big screen again is Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The third installment of Sony’s acclaimed, animated interdimensional adventure was originally meant to come out just a year after 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but was confirmed for a Summer 2027 release during Sony's CinemaCon panel in 2025.
Man Of Tomorrow (July 9, 2027)
James Gunn is wasting no time with the next chapter in his Superman saga, as the filmmaker and DCU boss has already announced the return of the “Man of Steel” in Man of Tomorrow. When David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor return to the big screen, they’ll be showing up in a movie that will be much different from its predecessor, Gunn has announced. In November 2025, it was revealed that there is already a shortlist of actors in talks to play Brainiac in the upcoming sequel. This should be good!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Sequel (September 17, 2027)
Though not your standard superheroes, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo are technically “heroes in a half-shell,” and they’ll be back on the big screen in a couple of years for the premiere of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Sequel.
The movie, which was slated to hit theaters in October 2026, will bring the next adventure for those legendary and tubular butt-kickers to the silver screen on September 17, 2027, per THR. Not a lot is known about the movie at this time, but director Jeff Rowe is back to helm these four teenage ninjas as they navigate the sewers of NYC once again.
The Batman Part II (October 1, 2027)
Robert Pattinson says he hopes to put on the cape and cowl a second time for co-writer and director Matt Reeves’ follow-up to his detective noir-inspired hit, 2022’s The Batman. The Batman Part II, which is not part of the new DC Universe continuity, has been an eagerly anticipated project for some time now.
It looks like Zoe Kravitz won’t be coming back for a second round of action, but there’s word that Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the sequel in an undisclosed role. That certainly changes things.
Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027)
When the Avengers return in 2026 with Doomsday, it will only be the first half of a larger story, similar to Infinity War and Endgame. The epic conclusion will be revealed a year later in Avengers: Secret Wars, which will also serve as the final chapter of the MCU’s sixth phase and is coming out several months after its initial summer 2027 release date.
We won’t know too much about the plot until Avengers: Doomsday, but that will be here before you know it.
Dynamic Duo (June 30, 2028)
For the first time ever, Batman’s most trusted ally, Robin, will be the lead of his own big-screen adventure, but it will not only follow one “Boy Wonder.” The upcoming animated movie, Dynamic Duo, from writer Matt Aldrich and producer Matt Reeves, will focus on both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd and, according to an X post by James Gunn, is presented in a “mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI." There has been some movement for this project in recent months, and we cannot wait to see Robin take center stage.
Untitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Live-Action Movie ( November 17, 2028)
Though we probably won’t get to see The Last Ronin anytime soon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, especially when it comes to the live-action movies, were in for a real treat in November 2025 when it was announced that another film was in the works. Details are close to nil at this point in time, but the new movie will land in theaters on November 17, 2028, around a year after the long-awaited Mutant Mayhem sequel hits the big screen.
Unannounced Marvel Movie Dates (2028)
On top of two Avengers movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe could see an additional four movies before the end of 2028. We don’t have details on these yet, but here’s a list of all the slated dates for multiple unannounced Marvel movies:

- December 15, 2028
Marvel initially held the July 23, 2027, date for a theatrical release, but that has since been given to the upcoming Simpsons movie, per EW. Does it count as a superhero movie if “Spider-Pig” returns from the 2007 animated film?
Upcoming Superhero Movies Without Release Dates
There are already quite a few upcoming superhero movies on the calendar, but there are even more hotly anticipated blockbusters that don’t yet have release dates. Here are some of the upcoming comic book flicks that’ll hopefully get more love in the months and years to come.
Armor Wars (TBA)
As of December 2025, we’re not sure what is going on with Armor Wars, which is meant to be the first big-screen adventure led by Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, who also goes by War Machine. Based on a comic book arc in which the Iron Man technology falls into the wrong hands, the project was originally set to be an upcoming Disney+ Marvel TV show before being reimagined as a feature. However, there haven’t been any substantial updates since then.
The Authority (TBA)
One of the most unique upcoming DCU projects could serve as an intriguing alternative for fans eager to see the Justice League on the big screen again. Described as a passion project by James Gunn, the underrated DC superhero team The Authority is made up of DC’s more mature and now defunct Wildstorm imprint, such as Midnight, Deathblow, and other irreverent vigilantes.
Though many months went by without any updates, Gunn told Deadline in September 2025 that the project wasn’t cancelled. However, the DCU boss didn’t elaborate whether this would still be a movie or transition to a TV show.
Black Panther 3 (TBA)
In late 2024, Marvel Studios' vice president of production and development, Nate Moore, confirmed for Deadline that a third Black Panther movie is in development. Previously, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington had spilled the beans about the project when mentioning that Ryan Coogler was writing a role for him while doing press for Gladiator II. Who the Academy Award winner could play in Black Panther 3, among virtually all other details about the film, remains unknown for now.
In November 2025, Coogler revealed during the Sinners panel at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles that this would be his next movie, though he didn’t provide a timeline. But hey, that is some great news!
Blade (TBA)
One of the most enigmatic upcoming superhero movies is Marvel Studios’ reboot of Blade, which was announced in 2019 with Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali set to lead as the vampire hunter previously portrayed by Wesley Snipes. Six years later, the horror-centric comic book flick has been delayed indefinitely, following multiple rewrites and director dropouts. Though it’s not fully dead yet, Blade’s fate remains unknown at this time.
Bloodshot 2 (TBA)
In 2020, Guardians of the Galaxy star Vin Diesel became a double-dipper when he led Bloodshot, which is based on a comic from Valiant Entertainment about a soldier reanimated from the dead. Later that year, Bloodshot 2 was announced, but to date, that’s seemingly the last thing anybody has heard about the sequel. There haven’t been many updates since then.
The Brave And The Bold (TBA)
Robert Pattinson’s Batman is not the only iteration of the Dark Knight to look forward to seeing on the big screen, as the official DCU continuity has its own version, which James Gunn has admitted has been a tough nut to crack when developing his new shared universe. Whenever this new Batman makes his live-action, cinematic debut in director Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, it will also pair him with his estranged son, Damian Wayne, as his Robin.
In October 2025, Muschietti told Variety that the movie was still in the works, but that he would have to wait a couple more months before he could say anything else. Well, we should know sooner or later what’s going on with this one.
BRZRKR (TBA)
We are not sure if or when we will ever see Keanu Reeves play a Marvel character, but we can expect to see the star lend his talents to the comic book movie genre soon. Reeves is set to lead an upcoming Netflix movie based on Boom! Studios’ BRZRKR, following a brutal immortal warrior, which is based on the actor’s own concept.
Constantine 2 (TBA)
BRZRKR is not the only Keanu Reeves-led comic book adaptation to look forward to. The actor had been hoping to reprise the role of John Constantine in a sequel to his 2005 adaptation of the occult detective’s DC comic. Now, the follow-up is becoming a reality and is further along than you might have assumed, according to director Francis Lawrence’s comments in early 2025. In October 2025, James Gunn told the BobaTalks podcast (via Deadline) that he’s discussed the movie with Reeves “on and off” but didn’t elaborate any further.
El Muerto (TBA)
The upcoming film El Muerto will make history as the first Marvel movie led by a Latino character, but the role in question is an unlikely choice. Before dropping out of the project, rapper and actor Bad Bunny was initially set to play the role of a wrestler who faced Spider-Man in just a couple of comic book appearances. After years of no updates, it’s starting to look like this one is dead.
Faith (TBA)

The hope that Bloodshot will kickstart a new cinematic universe based on Valiant properties continued with the greenlight of Faith in 2023. According to Variety, Jurassic Park: Dominion writer Emily Carmichael is penning a film about the titular superhero, otherwise known as Zephyr, for her ability to fly and make others soar.
Shang-Chi 2 (TBA)
In addition to helming MCU’s fourth Spider-Man movie, director Destin Daniel Cretton is also returning to bring back the star of his Marvel movie debut. He will write and helm a follow-up to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which Simu Liu is also set to lead, but he seems to be in the dark over the sequel’s development as much as anyone else. Liu is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, so maybe we’ll hear something after that.
Swamp Thing (TBA)
James Mangold directed some of the best Marvel movies at the end of the Fox era, namely The Wolverine and Logan. The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director is shifting to the DCU for an adaptation of Swamp Thing and intends to make his take on the half-man, half-plant hero a “noir mystery horror film,” according to his interview on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast back in 2023. When this one will see the light of day is anyone’s guess at this point.
Teen Titans (TBA)
The last time we saw the Teen Titans adapted for the big screen was in a spin-off of the comedic Teen Titans GO!, while the young crimefighters’ only live-action adaptation so far has been a TV series. However, THR reports that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira is working on a screenplay for an official Teen Titans movie.
X-Men (TBA)
We know that actors from the early 2000s X-Men movies are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. What we do not know is when Marvel Studios’ new take on the heroic mutants will enter the fold in their own feature. We’ll have to wait and see what happens after the big crossover event next December.
J.J. Abrams-Ta-Nehisi Coates Superman Movie (TBA)
David Corenswet’s Clark Kent may not be the only version of the Man of Steel flying onto the big screen at some point. Producer J.J. Abrams and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates have teamed for a movie about a Black Superman, which James Gunn confirmed is still in development on Threads. No other details have been announced.
There is probably more coming from the Marvel Universe (or Marvel multiverse), the DC Universe (or DC multiverse), or whatever continuity you prefer to expect on the big screen at some point in the near future.
