'It's 90% done' - Liam Smith reveals Callum Smith Anfield fight closer than ever

A dream world title defence at Anfield is closer than ever before for WBA World Super-Middleweight champion Callum Smith according to his brother, Liam.

Callum squares off against super-middleweight contender John Ryder in a homecoming fight this Saturday at the M&S Bank Arena in a contest promoted by Matchroom Boxing.

Smith is undefeated in 26 contests and heads into Saturday’s bout on the back of two devastating KO performances against George Groves and Hassan N’Dam.

The Liverpool boxer, nicknamed ‘Mundo’ is now on the hunt for huge fights having already claimed the world title back in September 2018.

“Canelo & Golovkin are the obvious choices” - Callum Smith talks the prospect of Anfield opponent

Anfield stadium has been talked about for a number of months as a possible future venue, with Smith’s promoter, Eddie Hearn confirming back in September that talks had taken place with Anfield officials.

During this week’s fight build up at the open workout, the Liverpool Echo spoke to Callum and Liam, who also confirmed a December date for his next fight.

Liam spoke about the prospect of Callum fighting at Anfield and revealed just how close Anfield stadium as a host venue is to being finalised.

Mundo first has to overcome the in-form Ryder this Saturday.
