'It makes no sense' - Watford defender wants Premier League axe and Liverpool title win

Watford defender Jose Holebas believes the season should be cancelled but has urged the Premier League to award Liverpool the title.

The Premier League announced on Friday that the season was indefinitely suspended until further notice amid the outbreak of coronavirus around the world.

But with the FA having relaxed a rule stating that the competition has to be finished by June 1 in order to complete the season, the Premier League are keen to play out the remainder of the campaign when it is safe to do so.

Should the Premier League season be cancelled and declared null and void then it would mean the Reds, who are 25 points clear of second-placed Man City and just two wins away from securing the title, would be likely to miss out on their first title for 30 years.

And while Holebas sees no sense in rescheduling the competition and playing it at a later date, he does believe Jurgen Klopp’s side deserve to be awarded the title as they are the “number one team” in the competition.

“In my opinion you have to cancel the season, for me that is pretty clear,” the Hornets left-back told Sky Sports

“I would give Liverpool the title, they deserve it and have played incredible football this season.

“They are clearly the number one team. I think it makes no sense to keep rescheduling all the time.”
