Dramatic photos show a huge fire creeping towards an Oldham village.
Pictures posted on social media showed huge flames engulfing the land outside Uppermill on Monday evening.
Smoke could be seen filling the air as the skies turned a deep shade of orange.
The fire service say they 'don't anticipate that the flames will reach any properties', but residents have been advised to keep their windows closed.
It is being treated as separate to moor fires across Greater Manchester, Derbyshire and West Yorkshire.
Fire crews were first called to Uppermill at 7pm. Six crews remained at the scene by 11pm.
Social media user Libby tweeted photos of the blaze just before 9pm.
She said: "Look at these moor fires near our house in Uppermill! Scary times."
Another said: "Massive fire in Uppermill. Looks like the end of the world."
Ben Guzdek, 22, was out for a birthday meal with his family when they spotted the flames reflecting from a window.

His family all left the restaurant and were shocked by what they saw. He said: "We took pictures, the fires are quite wild. It's just really disappointing to see how it has escalated."
The photo shows residents gathering in the foreground as the huge flames can be seen tearing through the moorland behind.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said there were six fire engines on the scene by 9pm.
Manchester Fire tweeted: "Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors shut if you live locally.
"Firefighters are using covering jets to stop the fire and don't anticipate it reaching nearby farms and properties."
The blaze was one of three fires to break out in 24 hours in the region.
Fire crews have also been tackling fires at Marsden Moor in West Yorkshire and Tintwistle in Derbyshire.
Hundreds of firefighters have been using fire beaters to tackle the blaze.
