Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins made a bold proclamation when the Miami Dolphins called his name — that general manager Chris Grier had just made the best decision he’s ever made. It’s easy to love the enthusiasm. But when Wilkins provided more depth to that statement, it became quite apparent that the Dolphins really did have their guy — one that Miami should be thrilled to have.
“… what I can do for the culture and for the organization. They’re not just getting a guy on the field who is going to do his best as a player and be disruptive and do the things I need to do on the field,” said Wilkins. “I’m the kind of guy you want in your organization just to make it a better place, to be playing winning football and play at the highest level. I’m determined to do that. I’m so excited and so fortunate to just be a part of this organization.”
Yeah. That’s exactly the kind of personality Brian Flores has been preaching about for months, really ever since he was hired by the Dolphins. Miami’s ability to acquire Wilkins and add his disruptiveness to the roster is a win in itself. But to have that package come with the kind of personality that blends perfectly with Miami’s desired mentality is icing on the cake.
To not make concessions on talent is a dream come true and one that Miami likely won’t have the luxury of avoiding with every move they make in the future. To get the talent and the person in the first go-round should have Miami feeling optimistic for the future with Christian Wilkins.
