In one of the most unexpected political moments of 2025, Senator Bernie Sanders and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene—two lawmakers who agree on virtually nothing—are now speaking pretty much in unison on one issue. The next thing we know, pigs will fly.
According to recent X posts from the politicians, the United States must stay out of Israel’s escalating conflict with Iran. As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ramps up military aggression in the Middle East, these two ideological opposites are warning that America is being dragged into a foreign war it neither wants nor can afford.

As difficult as it may be to admit, Greene made a point that’s hard to ignore. In a fiery June 15 post on X, she went after pro-war conservatives for what she sees as a betrayal of “America First” principles.
According to Greene, if you’re cheering for U.S. involvement in a war between Israel and Iran, you’ve got no business claiming the MAGA label. She didn’t mince words, accusing those voices of being “fakes” who “exposed themselves quickly.”
Like it or not, her post landed — if at points she sounded a bit like an official MAGA mean girl. “Everyone is finding out who are real America First/MAGA and who were fake and just said it bc it was popular,” she wrote. And later she dropped this strange line, “We have giant planks sticking out of our own eyes while we complain about splinters in other’s eyes.
Though she doesn’t mention Netanyahu by name, Greene argued that real patriots don’t want more body bags or broken soldiers; they want peace. She made it clear she doesn’t want to see Israel, Iran, Gaza, Ukraine, or Russia bombed—and she certainly doesn’t think Americans should be paying for any of it.

He assassinated Ali Shamkhani, Iran’s lead nuclear negotiator, deliberately sabotaging US-Iran nuclear negotiations.
The US must not be dragged into another illegal Netanyahu war – either militarily or financially.
Just one day later, Sanders pinned the blame squarely on Netanyahu, stating bluntly that the Israeli leader started this war by accusing Netanyahu of assassinating Ali Shamkhani, Iran’s lead nuclear negotiator. Without MGT’s incessant MAGA cheerleading, thankfully, Sanders argued the attack was designed to derail U.S.–Iran negotiations and force America into another illegal war. “The US must not be dragged into another illegal Netanyahu war—either militarily or financially,” he warned in his post.

The backdrop to all of this is a dramatic escalation that began on June 13, when Israel launched what it called “Operation Rising Lion.” The strike targeted over 100 nuclear and military sites across Iran, including the alleged killing of Shamkhani. Iran swiftly retaliated, launching hundreds of drones and missiles, further escalating tensions and igniting fears of a much larger conflict involving BRICS nations, NATO, and the broader Middle East.
Greene’s message struck a chord among MAGA voters disillusioned by hawkish voices on the right. She painted a vivid picture of the costs of war—trillions spent, soldiers maimed or suffering from PTSD, and endless grief for American families. Meanwhile, Sanders’ warning resonated with progressives wary of foreign entanglements and frustrated with Netanyahu’s increasing influence over U.S. foreign policy.
As the Israeli–Iranian conflict threatens to pull in regional powers and destabilize global alliances, the Sanders-Greene consensus may signal a growing demand across the political spectrum for the U.S. to pull back from costly foreign wars. Whether you call it America First or progressive restraint, the message is clear: don’t let Netanyahu’s decisions drag America into chaos.
