'It feels like a fairytale': Matt Damon says his lockdown experience in Dublin suburb is 'incredible'

Matt Damon has revealed what it has been like to spend lockdown in Ireland.

The actor and his family have been living in Dalkey, a suburb outside Dublin, since travel bans were established in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Damon was in the middle of filming Ridley Scott’s new movie, The Last Duel, when lockdown began.

Speaking on Spin 103.8’s Fully Charged radio show, Damon said: “Oh, it’s incredible. This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.”

He added: “Obviously what’s going on in the world is horrible, but for my family it timed out right. It feels a little like a fairytale here, it’s gorgeous.”

Last month, the Oscar-winner was photographed going for a swim with his clothes in a bag from Irish grocery store SuperValu, leading Twitter users to quip that he was fitting right in with the locals.

The Last Duel is an historical drama-thriller film based on the book The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France by Eric Jager.

The screenplay is written by Ben Affleck, Nicole Holofcener and Damon. It is Affleck and Damon’s first movie since the release of their award-winning script for Good Will Hunting.
