Information technology parks and offices, the facility managers and hostels in Hyderabad are geared up and look forward to receiving more IT employees return to office.
“We are ready to serve them,” IT Corridor Hostel Association treasurer Maheedhar Vellampalli said, listing COVID-19 protocols the hostels have put in place to welcome IT employees resuming work from office. Appealing to software professionals, he said the livelihood of thousands of people, working in the hostels, is dependent on their return to office. Prior to the pandemic, there are 3,500 hostels in and around the IT hub of Hyderabad such as Gachibowli and Kondapur.
The two years of pandemic saw 20% of hostels shutdown and pushed 30% into financial crisis. The remaining are struggling to stay afloat, he told mediapersons on Thursday.
Telangana Facility Management Council president Satyanarayana said the IT campuses are “ready and decked up” to receive the employees. Vendors are also coming back and cab operators are also encouraging drivers, who returned to native places, during the pandemic, to return.
Shrawan Kumar of Raheja IT Park highlighted how IT offices are better equipped and implement COVID protocols.
Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association president Bharani K. Aroll said 12-15% IT employees are back in office and by July the number is expected to touch 50%. He said working as a team and collective productivity were important for the IT industry.
On how did Telangana fare in terms of IT exports in 2021-22, he estimated a 15% increase over the previous year’s performance. In 2020-21 IT and ITeS exports from the State increased 12.98% to ₹1,45,522 crore.
