It Ends With Us fans upset after first cast photos released

Colleen Hoover fans have had a mixed reaction to the first-look photos of the cast of It Ends With Us.

It was announced in January that Blake Lively and Jason Baldoni would star in the film adaptation of the author’s popular romance novel. Blake, 35, will play Lily Bloom who has just moved to Boston to begin life after university. Jason, 39, will play her 30-year-old love interest Doctor Ryle Kincaid.

This week, behind-the-scenes pictures were shared on social media showing Blake in costume, wearing a pink jacket with a pink shirt and a brown maxi dress. However, the social reaction to these images has been divided with some fans stating they were not happy with the differences between Blake’s image and what they had envisioned Lily to look like.

A video posted to TikTok yesterday by @niquecoleman - which has racked up 2.3mi views - discusses her thoughts on the casting of the film adaptation.

Nicole said: “We have gotten our first look of Blake Lively and Jason Baldoni on the set of It Ends With Us. I think most of us were already not thrilled with the casting but this is kind of confirming the fears.

“Let me just say that I love Blake Lively, I love her so much but this is not Lily Bloom. This was just not at all what the book was giving but maybe we just need to trust the process.”

Many users rushed to comment about their disappointment of the casting, saying younger actors were needed for the roles of Lily and Ryle. One said: “I think aging them up changes the whole story… her youth being taken away by the relationship made it feel so much more fragile and heartbreaking imo”.

A second added: “Yes! I love that you mention the age. Like lily is supposed to be early 20s the cast is too old for the characters in the book”. Some fans however have praised the casting, with one saying: “Justin Baldoni is so correct for the role - pictured his face when I was reading the book so I’m happy I have that” while another commented: “Stop these are like my two favourite people ever”.
