It doesn’t sound like the Bengals will get new jerseys soon

The Cincinnati Bengals changing up the jerseys to usher in a new era has been a common conversation for a while now.

Just don’t expect anything immediately on that front.

While the conversation has especially taken a leap since the arrival of Zac Taylor, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com makes it sound like it is a non-starter this offseason:

“CUBBY: Since it takes an act of Congress to get new uniforms approved, designed and manufactured, don’t look for new Bengals uniforms this year. After that, I guess anything is on the table. But no matter when it happens, I don’t see there being a major overhaul in the look. I think it’s more likely that the club refines it. Fans love the helmet and the stripes. Go back to 1981 and Bengals founder Paul Brown talking about moving to the striped helmet and it still all holds up nearly 40 years later. Orange and black are a signature and distinguishing combo. So maybe some tweaks, but no overhaul.”

Back in January, we asked if the Bengals should rebrand the jerseys and logo — and the answer remains yes.

The Bengals ushered in a new era with Taylor and will probably further do so in April by taking Joe Burrow first overall. But from a roster-construction standpoint, the team has treated this more like a steady transition — at least for now.

But as the writeup notes, the jersey overhaul takes extensive layers of approval from various parties before going final. It sounds like it won’t happen this offseason, but with teams like the Cleveland Browns even getting new jerseys, it will be something fans keep letting the organization hear.
