'It doesn't seem real, I'm broken' Daughter's heartbreaking tribute to mum killed by lightning bolt

The daughter of a Selkirk woman killed by a lightning strike has led tributes to her "beautiful" mum.

Ashley Bytautas took to Facebook to announce her mum, Isobel Bytautas, died while climbing in the Highlands yesterday.

The 55-year-old was with the walking group the Linlithgow Ramblers when two of the hikers were struck near Fort William .

The mum-of-one was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ashley left an emotional Facebook post saying: "Never did I ever think I would have to write this...last night dad and I received the most heartbreaking news imaginable, my beautiful mother and his wife is gone I can't process it.

"It doesn't seem real. I'm broken. Whilst out on the mountains at Fort William yesterday with the Linlithgow Ramblers, a group of 7 were struck by lightning.

"Mum died instantly a freak one in a million accident you never think is possible.

"Can't imagine life without her, I'm lost. Please can the families wishes be respected and given peace till arrangements are made. Thank you.

Coastguard and ambulance service helicopters, alongside the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, were dispatched to find the wounded group. They were located on Na Gruagaichean, a mountain about five miles south of Ben Nevis.

Friends of Isobel commented on Ashley's post also paying their respects.

Pauline Notman took to Facebook to say: "Absolutely devastated for you Isobel was one of the most wonderful people you could meet and so glad I had the pleasure of calling her my friend."

Louis McIntosh has described Isobel as a "lovely" woman.

She said: "So sorry to hear this very sad news - Isobel was a lovely lady & will be missed by many - thoughts are with you at this sad time."

Emma Blair wrote: "Such heartbreaking news! Your mum was one of the nicest people to work with.

Emily Dodds offered her support to Ashley, said wrote: "Absolutely devastating news and so heartbreaking to hear about your mum.

Angela Armstrong said Isobel would be missed.

She said: "So sorry to here, I only worked with your mum for a short time, but she was such a lovely friendly lady xx. Sadly missed by all."
