'It doesn’t get much bigger' - promising youngster excited by Liverpool transfer reports

Coventry City's Sam McCallum has said "it doesn't get much bigger" than Liverpool amid reported interest from the Premier League leaders.

The left-back scored the opening goal in the Sky Blues' 1-1 draw with MK Dons at the weekend as he continues to impress for the League One side.

Formerly of Isthmian League side Herne Bay, McCallum was picked up through the Jamie Vardy Academy system as a 17-year-old.

McCallum, now 19, has been a regular for Coventry this season, finding the net on three occasions and picking up two assists.

His excellent form has alerted a host of clubs across the Premier League and Championship, but the youngster has refused to let the interest distract him.

“It’s just in the background and until anything comes up I am just focused on Coventry," McCallum said.

“My head is not anywhere else at the moment. I just want to get minutes at Coventry.”

The teenager stated his desire to contribute more goals, and reiterated the fact that his contract runs until 2022.

“I have another year after this season and hopefully they will just use me more and see me as an asset that I can go and create chances and score more goals,” he said.

McCallum admitted that he was aware of potential interest from Liverpool , but refused to let himself get too carried away with the reports.

“It does make me smile," he laughed. “I did see that and I suppose it doesn’t get much bigger than that but like I said, it’s just in the background and nothing has come of it.”

“It makes me feel happy but you obviously don’t know what’s true and what’s not, so...”

Liverpool are lacking depth at left-back, with Andrew Robertson the only recognised senior player in that position.
