It could take police months to know how Northern Quarter chef Hiran Chauhan was murdered

Police still don't know how Northern Quarter chef Hiran Chauhan was murdered.

A post mortem was carried out on July 9, but the cause of death remains 'unascertained'.

Now a complex toxicology report is being prepared in a bid to establish what killed him. It could take several months to prepare.

The 24-year-old had been missing for a week before his body was found wrapped in plastic in undergrowth among trees off Eccles Old Road at around 8am on July 9.

Police believe he was carried to the location, rather than transported in a vehicle, suggesting he was killed nearby.

Detectives investigating the death of chef Hiran Chauhan are appealing for any video footage that may have been recorded on this stretch of Eccles Old Road in Salford from Castleway to Weaste Lane, between 12.30am and 9am on Tuesday July 9 (Google)

The grim discovery was made by schoolchildren using the wood as a cut through.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was later released on bail.

Police are still trying to figure out the precise location Hiran was killed.

Officers have recovered a silver Suzuki Swift they were looking for following information from a witness.

Hiran, 24, from Seedley, Salford, did not return home following a shift at El Capo restaurant in Manchester city centre.

He finished work at around 10.30pm on Tuesday, July 2 and began making his way home with a friend.

They both visited the McDonald's in Piccadilly Gardens then travelled home on a tram.

CCTV footage shows Hiran got off the tram at Cornbrook at 11.08pm.

He would normally then catch a tram towards Salford and get off at Langworthy.

Further footage shows Hiran got off the tram at Langworthy at 11.31pm, but Hiran never returned home to the room he rented in a house share.

Police have issued an appeal for video footage captured in the area as they try to identify the killer.

Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who has information or has any video footage captured between 12.30am and 9am on Tuesday 9 July 2019 on Eccles Old Road between Weaste Lane and Castleway including Rivington Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 6777, quoting reference number 585 of July 9; or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
