It could soon cost you £3 to park at these Bristol beauty spots seven days a week

Parking charges could soon be introduced at Blaise Castle and Oldbury Court - but they will no longer be at an all-day rate.

It’s been a more than a year since Bristol City Council announced plans to introduce new traffic management measures around the estates.

Part of the original proposals included charging a £2 flat rate to park all day in car parks at both Blaise Castle and Oldbury Court.

However, the most recent proposals for Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) at both estates no longer includes a flat-rate parking charge.

Instead, the authority is proposing to charge motorists £1 for up to one hour, £2 for up to two hours and £3 for up to five hours, every day between 9am and 6pm.

Before 9am and after 6pm, parking will be free, subject to seasonal car park opening times. Parking for disabled persons’ badge holders and for motorcycles with two wheels will be free, with no time limits.

The parking charges will be in force at Blaise Castle and Oldbury Court including the car park at Snuff Mills, off River View in Frome Vale.

Blaise Castle Estate car park will have some coach bays for use for coaches and minibuses. The proposed pay and display charges for coaches is £5 for up to one hour, £10 for up to two hours, £20 for up to five hours and £25 for up to nine hours, every day between 9am and 6pm.

For minibuses it will cost £3 for up to one hour, £6 for up to two hours, £9 for up to five hours and £12 for up to nine hours.

A three-week consultation on the TROs starts tomorrow (Wednesday, November 27) and includes introducing a series of traffic management measures on roads around both estates including 'no waiting' restrictions and double and single-yellow lines.

Changes expected to save parks in Bristol

Bristol City Council has said introducing parking charges will allow for a “turnover of spaces” at the estates, which cannot currently be guaranteed. It also said it would enable the council to invest more in its heritage assets and green spaces.

A statement from the council said: “To mitigate the effects of any potential indiscriminate parking that may take place on the highway as a result of parking charges being introduced in these Parks Estate car parks, the council also proposes to make traffic orders for additional waiting restrictions on various streets surrounding Blaise Castle and Oldbury Court Estates.”
