'It could have been more' - Graham Coughlan vows to put things right after Bristol Rovers crash to heavy Doncaster Rovers defeat

Graham Coughlan has vowed to put things right after Bristol Rovers crashed to a 4-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

The Gas were 3-0 down within 30 minutes as the promotion-chasing hosts threatened to run riot.

It was the Gas’ first away defeat under Coughlan since December – a big factor in that run has been their defensive resolve, which crumbled  at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Coughlan admitted it was a surprise but said that Doncaster could easily have scored more.

He said: “It was a surprise that we conceded four in total but, let’s be honest, it could have been more than four.

“I’d still say we had two or three chances in the first half that might have given them a little scare but, really, let’s be honest, we didn’t lay a glove on them.

“They were far better than us, they were a better team – they were a well-oiled machine, that’s why they’re chasing promotion and that’s why we’ve had a battle on our hands all season.

“This group of boys have been different class for me for three months, this group of boys react, they’re decent on the training ground – they will go again, I’m pretty sure, and I’m still very confident there’s enough points to play for to keep us safe.”

Coughlan promised to stand by his Gas players and said that he expects a reaction against league leaders Luton Town on Saturday.

“The lads have been different class for me for the last three months and I ain’t going to let one game destroy what we’ve built up.

“I ain’t going to get too heated up and start chucking my toys out the pram and making daft statements and knee-jerk reactions.

“The boys have been different class for me for three months and I’m going to stick by each and every one of them – I’m going to pick them up and we’re going to go and rally the troops.

“We’re going to go again and, for sure, they will react on Saturday.”
