'It could happen' - Arsenal get £6.3m striker seal of approval ahead of possible January transfer

Arsenal continue to be linked with 18-year-old forward Ianis Stoica ahead of the January transfer window and given he's not exactly a household name, there is an intrigue among supporters about what profile of player he is.

The Romania youth international has been labelled as a player with "real quality" and someone who excels in a number of different areas of his play.

The owner of his parent club, Gigi Becali, recently attempted to set the record straight amid the growing interest in his player.

"It is good that Arsenal are monitoring Ianis, but there is no point as he is not for sale,” Becali told AS as quoted by TeamTalk. “He could be in a year or two, but not yet. He is technically skilled, physically strong and very smart.

“I currently have [an offer of] €7.5 million (£6.3m) for Ianis Stoica,” continued FCSB's owner, outlining his demands. “And I want €10 million (£8.5m) plus 20% [from a future transfer]."

While a deal isn't necessarily off the cards, Tom Canton spoke to Romanian football expert Alex Scout live on The Arsenal Way 'Transfer Insight Show' to discuss the Gunners' links with Stoica and uncover why the north London side are such keen suitors.

AS: "He has overall qualities, I can't find a fault. Maybe he doesn't have a perfect left-foot but he has many, many, qualities and I can't find any flaws.

"He is good at heading, he is good with his feet, he can dribble, he can keep the ball, he can pass, he participates in the game often.

"He is a smart player, which I think is rare. You can be fast, very technically gifted, very talented but if you're not smart and you don't know where to go on the pitch, where to go to create danger, then it's hard. He has real quality."

Our guest also addressed his slight doubts over the size of pricetag being suggested for a deal - but hinted that he's a player he expects can make the jump to an English top-flight club from one of Europe's lesser leagues.

"Becali will always ask for more," Alex added. "I don't know if what he said is official, I would need someone from Arsenal to confirm this.

"It could happen - it's not absurd. The player is interesting and I think many clubs are probably following him - the price is correct but ten (million euros) seems a bit much because he hasn't even played 20 games in the first division.

"It's a bit soon and it's only the Romanian first division but he is mentally very good. If he goes to Arsenal he'll probably first play with the under-23s or get a loan.

"That's not a problem though for him, he is always asking to play. He always wants to play even if it's in the second or third division."
