It could be deja vu: Welsh couple win £1m in national lottery for the second time

A couple from mid-Wales have become £1m national lottery winners for the second time, defying odds of more than 24 trillion to one to claim the jackpot again.

Richard Davies, 49, and Faye Stevenson-Davies, 43, first landed a seven-figure prize in June 2018 through the EuroMillions millionaire maker.

Their recent win came in the Lotto draw on 26 November, when they matched five main numbers and the bonus ball.

“We knew the odds of it happening again were outrageous, but we’re proof that if you believe, anything is possible,” Faye told the BBC.

According to experts at Allwyn, the operator of the national lottery, the chances of the same couple winning both prizes were more than 24 trillion to one.

“It came to us through a series of four consecutive Lotto draws,” Richard said.

“When you match two numbers in the Lotto draw, you automatically win a Lucky Dip for the next game and that’s what’s happened to us.

“We matched two numbers and won a free Lucky Dip from one draw which put us into the next draw and so on, until the winning draw on 26 November.”

Despite their renewed fortune, the couple remain community focused. Richard, a former hairdresser, now volunteers his skills at a homeless shelter in Cardiff, and also helps friends by working as a delivery driver.

Faye, an ex-nurse, volunteers as a cook at Cegin Hedyn community kitchen in Carmarthen and provides mental health counselling services to local organisations, including Brecon & District Mind charity. She will be working on Christmas Day.

“The first time we won we gifted people cars, donated a minibus to the local rugby team and did our best to help friends and family,” said Faye. “It was all new and it was amazing to be able to make a difference.

“This time around, who knows? We’re just going to take our time and enjoy the moment.”
