The Jacksonville Jaguars and coach Urban Meyer are on the verge of a contract that makes him the next head coach, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Meyer has been in the mix for the job, even before the team fired coach Doug Marone this month. Though Meyer had interest from the University of Texas, he passed on that opportunity, apparently in an effort to get an NFL job, his first head coaching job in the pros after decades of success in college. If we were able to compartmentalize and think only about football, this move would be truly exciting, with one of the most successful college coaches ever bringing his talents to the NFL level in a fascinating experiment that hasn’t always worked out (See: Nick Saban).
