'It all seemed to go mad': Residents speak of shock after man injured in stabbing in Bolton

Residents have spoken of their shock after a man suffered 'life-changing injuries' in a stabbing in Bolton.

Emergency services were called to an address in Church Road, Farnworth, just after 5:30pm on Monday (June 28) to reports of an assault.

When they arrived, they found a 31-year-old man with stab wounds.

He was taken to hospital with what police described as 'life-changing' injuries.

A 29-year-old man was later arrested of section 18 assault.

He is set to be interviewed by detectives today.

A large police cordon was in place on Church Road between some playing fields and a row of terraced houses throughout Monday evening.

An alleyway to the rear of the properties was also taped off.

People living close to the scene said they had heard shouting coming from a house on the street just moments before police arrived.

Hayley Woodcock, who lives in Church Road, said: "I heard shouting and screaming.

"We went outside and just saw loads of police and ambulance.

"There was a chair outside and they had sat someone on there.

"It's shocking, and a bit random for around here. It's usually quiet."

Images shared with the Manchester Evening News showed an air ambulance landing in a nearby car park.

Another resident added: "I saw the helicopter and heard the sirens.

"It all seemed to go mad at once. There were police cars everywhere.

"I came out the front and everyone was outside. You could tell the man had been stabbed."

Another resident who asked not to be named, said: "There was an argument earlier on today. One [man] came back with a knife.

"There was a fight in the back garden then a man ran off. We phoned the police."

Detective Sergeant Robert Parker from Greater Manchester Police's Bolton Division said: "This has no doubt concerned the local community and we have deployed additional officers in the area to provide reassurance as our enquiries continue, however we would like to reassure residents that all information indicates this to be an isolated incident."
