'It affects nothing' - Manchester City star's vow ahead of Liverpool Premier League showdown

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has issued a rallying cry ahead of their game against Liverpool on Sunday, after the club suffered a 2-0 defeat to PSG.

Former Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring on Tuesday night before Lionel Messi grabbed his first goal for his new side in a 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes.

Manchester City headed into the game in high spirits after overcoming Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but their momentum was halted prior to their battle with Liverpool .

Defeat in Paris would have been a body blow to Pep Guardiola’s team, but Dias has insisted the team are well-prepared for the trip to Anfield.

"It affects nothing [ahead of Liverpool], especially we know what we're capable of, we know our identity and we know what we need to do at Anfield to win,” he said .

“Obviously it's a loss and we're [frustrated] but that's the good habits of being a top team. We'll take it but in no time we'll be back again.

"Now the major focus is on Sunday's game at Anfield and that's where all our energy will be.”

Liverpool head into the weekend’s top of the table clash in fine form, having continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-1 win over Porto.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino were all among the goals in the Champions League, while Curtis Jones also produced a star performance for the Reds, to send Jurgen Klopp ’s team top of Group B.

Currently the only team with an unbeaten record in the Premier League, Liverpool will be looking to avenge a 4-1 home defeat that the club suffered to City in February during last season's injury crisis .

Dias admitted that his team-mates failed to take their chances against PSG, with that proving the difference against an elite side.

“We know the team was there, the team performed and we created the chances, we didn't finish them and [in] a game like this that has a huge impact,” the Portuguese international admitted.

“One goal might have changed it all. Essentially we have the best example, last year's game [against PSG] when we scored everything changed.

“Today was not our day. We take the good, we take the bad, and we will get better."

Liverpool fans will be hoping for a repeat performance from their opponents on Sunday, as they look to exert an early lead in the title race.
